Infectious Diseases - February 2007

ok about 2 months ago i had a cold...i had a fever, sore throat,i coughe a lot, and had frequent head aches....after a weeks or so my head aches and fever went away...then my sore throat and coughing went away....but now i have all those symptoms again and they are worse....everytime i cough, green stuff comes out...i think its mucus....ive been taking anti biotics and cought syrup...and ive had this for like a month since it came back....what is it and what do i do to heal quicker?

I have had a chesty cough for over a week, went to the docs for the first time in 2 years today, waited 2 hours only to be told I don't need antibiotics ( I thought that if the cough was persisent, it meant an infection!!!) I have had 2 bottles of benylin (yuck!) over the past week but I still can't shift the cough. Any ideas ? Coventional or homeopathic remedies welcome!!

I recently (7 weeks ago) had the 'flu as opposed to a bad cold, and lo and behold as a bonus I've just had another dose of it, I thought you couldn't get it twice in succession due to the antibodies that you must have in your system from the previous dose of the flu. Any ideas why?

I had protected vaginal sex with a girl which i just knew is HIV possitive. After i was told, i´m feeling all symptoms (white tongue, swollen glands, sore throat, fatigue...every thing). A friend told me if i used the condom properly, i don´t need the test. My risk was 2 years ago... Do you guys think i need the test...Are condoms 100%???

PD. 1 MONTH AFTER MY EXPOSURE, I HAD SEX WITH MY GIRLFRIEND AND SHE GOT PREGNANT (SHE AND THE BABY WERE NO REACTIVE DURING THE 9 MONTHS SHE WAS TESTED).

My son and husband both tested positive for TB. They were exposed at some point but neither has active TB. They are both on the medication they prescribe for it. I am getting tested next week, it's likely that I'll be positive too, but I'd like to get pregnant some time this year. Is that possible/okay while your taking the 9 month TB meds? I think our former Guatemalan nanny had active TB. She came back from one of her visits home with a very bad "cold."

Help! My daughter was just diagnosed with Mono after 2 weeks of repeated trips to doctor for illness that was getting no better. Doc said no overexertion and no contact sports. Does this mean no softball? Anyone gone through mono with kids? What is best way to help her? She has gone back to school and feeling pretty good today.

My daughter and husband have it! We were going to get the flu shots but then they got sick. Yesterday the doctor confirmed that is what it is and my son and I both got the shot so we wouldn't get it that bad if we catch it. The doctor have a medicine and they take that but are there any other homemade remedies? All in all I really need an answer!

All five of my kids, and my husband have the flu. I feel like crap and am coughing, with the shakes like I've seen the rest of my family go through.

so my kids and husband have been running fevers all day... I bought a new ear thermometer...

When I checked my temp, it said 94.3. So I checked my other ear and it said 93.6... so then I checked my daughter who has had a high fever all night and it said 102.9... which I expect from her because she had it up to 105 a couple hours ago... I then checked mine again, and it said 93.4

What does it mean if my temp is dropping??

What makes the virus still live in a needle/syringe ,but not live on a wet blood on a broken glass?
People say the virus dies in seconds if it gets in contact with air.

low lymphocyte count so my doctor performed a more detailed test and the results came back as having a low cd3 only. No other cd's were low, they were normal. I have an appt tomorrow to discuss results with my doc. The clinic nurse went over the results with me but she said she hadn't seen that sort of result before so wasn't able to give me any other information. any information would be fantastic. thanks!

I am in the play Cinderella as Cinderella in 2 days. I went to disneyland 3 days ago and my throat is still very hoarse from screaming and it is hard for me to sing. I really need fast throat relief! A little help? :)

he has a slight temp and took one 500 mg. acetometiphin.. this strain of flu seems to be very hard on people.. 5 people have died in the state from the flu in the past couple of weeks. i just want to make sure i can do everything possible to help him.. any suggestions are very welcomed..
