Help! My daughter was just diagnosed with Mono after 2 weeks of repeated trips to doctor for illness that was getting no better. Doc said no overexertion and no contact sports. Does this mean no softball? Anyone gone through mono with kids? What is best way to help her? She has gone back to school and feeling pretty good today.

In Mononucleiosis the spleen enlarges and is at risk for rupture if trauma of some kind occurs. Softball is a relatively safe sport but there is risk of collisions (pop fly in the outfield, baserunners colliding with infielders, play at the plate, hit by pitch) so it si probably best to keep her on the bench. It will resolve on its own, so there is not much you can do at this point.

She needs to rest so no softball. If she really feels well she could try softball but that is a pretty agressive sport and might really fatigue her as this would be considered overexertion.

Yes that means no softball. The only thing you can do to help her is make sure she's getting her rest and drinking plenty of fluids. Make sure she's eating nutritious food too. It's a virus that just has to run its course.

my 10 year old brother had mono..we didn't know that he had it but he was always very tired. Just lots of rest. He played baseball, but he turned out fine. It depends on the case of it. Judge it by how she feels
