My son and husband both tested positive for TB. They were exposed at some point but neither has active TB. They are both on the medication they prescribe for it. I am getting tested next week, it's likely that I'll be positive too, but I'd like to get pregnant some time this year. Is that possible/okay while your taking the 9 month TB meds? I think our former Guatemalan nanny had active TB. She came back from one of her visits home with a very bad "cold."

I am assuming that you are being put on Isoniazid. Read below for an exerpt from a website about that drug. Your doctor might decide to go either way with it. Women have taken it safely during pregnancy, but most physicians would rather take the most conservative approach when it comes to meds in pregnancy.

Pregnancy: Although safe use of isoniazid during pregnancy has not been definitely established, isoniazid has been used to treat clinical tuberculosis in pregnant women. If a risk vs. benefit analysis results in a decision to use isoniazid during pregnancy, prophylactic pyridoxine supplementation is recommended.

Prophylactic isoniazid therapy is best postponed until after delivery, unless the woman is likely to have been recently infected or has other high risk medical conditions such as HIV infection.
