It sounds actually like a stomach virus, not the actual flu.
Either way, Pedialyte is a good thing to give him. Stop eating until he can hold something down.

have him drink a lot of water. dehydration wears people with the flu out more than anything.
tea, soup, etc are good ways to get water in him.
if he vomits up everything he eats he doesn't have to eat. going a day or two with little food is not at all life threatening. if he can hold it down, chicken broth, crackers, toast, rice, pasta - any bland food is easy to digest. water is a must though.
get him to a doctor so they can make sure its the flu and help him.
if his temp gets too high take him to a doc immediately.
let him eat what he wants to - odds are if he wants any food at all his body is telling him to have it. even if its ice cream :)

He obviously has a stomach flu, which is not the same as the flu virus we take vaccines for each fall. If he feels like he can keep food down, soft foods like bananas, unsweetened applesauce and toast are good. Otherwise, it's just important to make sure he get plenty of fluids. If he gets very lethargic and/or has scant urine output, make sure to get him to the doctor, as he may be dehydrated. Good luck.

Try not to feed him any solid foods.....this includes milk, ice cream, yogurt and other dairy products. Once in the stomache they become solids and will likely just lead to more vomitting. Soup broths (clear) are good if he can tolerate them. Try to serve them at luke warm temperatures. Low sodium soup broths are also good as they contain potassium instead of salt. In this case watered down sports drinks are acceptable as they contain electrolytes that are lost during vomitting and periods of diarrhea. Do not over-do it. Too many electrolyte replacements can be just as dangerous as too few. Clear soda pops are always good because they are high in sugar content, and this will replace some of the starches he is not able to eat.

I'm a nurse. Kids and the elderly can dehydrate fast from vomiting/diarrhea. I would take your child to the doctor just in case fluids is needed. I know this is upsetting, but try to hang in there. I will pray for your son tonight, I'm a Christian. See a doctor asap

depending on his age you want to give him something like pedialite because the main cause of death in this case is dehydration. If the vomiting continues take him to the er. they have things to stop the vomiting.
