Do people find it worrying that 34% of people on lipid lowering therapy have a "normal" lipid profile
http://www.totallipids.com/total_lipids/totallipids/cv_risk/index.jsp
What can be read into a trial where everybody had "normal" cholesterol levels, everybody was giver some lipid loweing drug, yet there was still 1 cardivascular event for every 12 people.
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6T1B-488V954-7&_user=10&_coverDate=04%2F05%2F2003&_alid=657163273&_rdoc=3&_fmt=summary&_orig=search&_cdi=4886&_sort=d&_docanchor=&view=c&_ct=3&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=190bb9a0aadbdafecbf0c874dbe72aef
Surely if cholesterol was the cause of heart disease we would expect much fewer cardiovascular events in a group of people without high cholesterol, and still getting cholesterol lowering drugs?

Hello, I hope you have the time to give me some suggestions/comments when it comes to my lab results. I was tested earlier this morning. I won't be back to the doctor's office until next week. For now, I hope you can give your suggestions that I can follow for the following days.

URINALYSIS
Sugar: Negative
Albumin: Trace
Pus: 0-2/HPF

BLOOD CHEM (expressed in mmol/l)
Glucose: 4.53 (normal: 3.89-5.84)
Creatinine: 77.37 (normal: M:57-92)
Cholesterol: 4.53 (normal:3.9-6.18)
Triglycerides: 1.16 (normal: 0.45-1.86)
HDL: .90 (M: 1.04-1.3)
LDL: 3.10 (0-4.0)

Guys, I'm worried about the traces of albumin in urine (yeah, I do love to eat meat) and my HDL (it's low. what do you mean by that?). What can you I do to make me normalize the results next time? Like I said, my next appointment is still next week. I'm still 17. years old. Thank you all!

After researching stem cell treatments for congestive heart failure, I finally found the one medical facility that performs fetal stem cell therepy without general anesthesia, which would be too dangerous for her. The only catch is that she would have to fly to the Dominican Repubic to get it. It would be a couple hours to get to Florida, and a couple more on the next flight to the Dominican Republic, and then the treatment facility is only 10 minutes away by cab. She's 73 and has had this disease for around 6 years. She can still go to the store, out to dinner, or other short excursions, but anything longer or more strenous requires a wheelchair, so she doesnt get out much. This is the best chance we've found to give her her life back, and I would hate to see it go down the drain just because of the flight.

I checked into the hospital monday morning after 3-4 days of my heart racing. Monday came around and all the symptoms culminated. Am I the youngest recorded case (being slightly sarcastic)? What is the quality of life like after being diagnosed? I know I'm not supposed to drink or smoke or any of those fun things young people like to do. I'm just a little scared as I know this is a very serious condition plus my age being 22 it adds fear.

I've been having chest pains on and off for about 4 years now.
When I went to the doc the first time he said I had an "irritation" around my heart and prescribed me some Aspirin. They've been coming and going ever since.

Recently in the past few months they've gotten more frequent and more intense. I recently had an exercise stress test and haven't heard back from the doctor yet even though it was more than 2 weeks ago. I ended up going to the hospital one morning because the pains were so bad. There they did an ECG, blood work, chest x-ray and an ultrasound. All they told me was that the ECG was "abnormal" but nothing else was visibly wrong. The doc prescribed me some anti-inflammatory meds that don't stop the pain.

The pain itself is in different places at different times, sometimes the left side right beneath my breast and spreads to my shoulder and back area, sometimes like pressure on the center, and sometimes it's on the right side. I'm really scared about this...HELP

Well, I've had high blood pressure for over 6 months now. My doctor just keeps telling me to come back again at a later date to check on it again but it's never gone down, and he doesn't do anything about it. It's now reached !50/110 when I'm stressed. This worries me like crazy now that I'm going to drop down dead at any moment which doesnt help the bp probably.
What should I do? do i trust my doctor in knowing whats best for me or can i do something about it?
