The systolic arterial pressure is defined as the peak pressure in the arteries, which occurs near the beginning of the cardiac cycle; the diastolic arterial pressure is the lowest pressure (at the resting phase of the cardiac cycle). The average pressure throughout the cardiac cycle is reported as mean arterial pressure; the pulse pressure reflects the difference between the maximum and minimum pressures measured.

What is your blood pressure reading, i don't know why you left that out ? but this is not impossible, you may have a problem with your meter, perhaps the equipment is not functioning right in which case needs replacement. The proper reading should be close to 120/80 normal Systolic/ Diastolic. Your reading is ( stage 2 ) Severe High Blood Pressure maybe. What you need to do is see your health care provider for an accurate reading of your blood pressure and good luck.

Hi Tyra
I've written heaps about blood pressure on my website:
http://www.bloodpressurehigh.com
Systolic and diastolic blood pressure all relates to whether the heart is squeezing or relaxing.
When it squeezes hard to pump the blood around the body then that creates a pressure wave and the peak of this pressure wave is called the systolic pressure. The low point of the wave is when the heart is relaxing to fill up with blood before it squeezes again. This is called the diastolic pressure
Hope that makes it clear

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

In laymen's terms, systolic ocuurs when the heart contacts, and diastolic occurs when the heart relaxes.

It is difficult to tell you without a reading, if you had mentioned the readings a provisional diagnosis can be reached. It will be better to have yourself checked out with your doctor,as there multiple reasons, for your question.
