For the last 35 years, doctors recommend one or two 81 mg Aspirin daily, and be careful of the fat in your diet.
In a study, it cut the deaths due to heart attack by about 20% in those taking the Aspirin. The death rate was not high, about 2.5% per year, for those without Aspirin, but it was 2% for those taking Aspirin. That means an additional 50 people per 10,000 died during the three years of the study. It was terminated and all participants were put on Aspirin.
Statistically, had they continued the study, they would have allowed another 350 to die who would otherwise survive.

Aspirin 81 milligrams is a good preventative treatment for a heart attack, although, your doctor must evaluate your conditions before starting any long term dosage of aspirin. If you already have thinner blood than usual, aspirin can cause excessive bleeding and cause ulcers to bleed. Sometimes, aspirin is not enough, which is another reason to talk to your doctor about blood thinners.
