A lot of the cardiac medications state on the instructions "do not take with alcohol". If he is, he is decreasing the effectiveness of his medications, thus setting himself up for complications after his first heart attack and possible making himself more susceptible to another. He is the only one who can stop the drinking if he wants to live.

You are a good friend for being so concerned as to ask. I am not a Dr., but I am an R.N. with a background in cardiology. It is not okay for him to be drinking whiskey everyday. In fact, it is very harmful. He is heading down the wrong road which will sooner or later kill him. If you are serious about finding him help before it is too late, you might want to try calling AA for some further direction. I wish you the best....

Not a good idea. Alcohol has a way of thickening blood- at least, that's what a recovering alcoholic told us when he came to a school I was attending at the time. And I don't think your friend wants to set himself up for a second attack.

If your friend can't put away that bottle by himself, get him to someone who can help him.

Good luck.
