Here in the UK, there has been no evidence to suggest that pancreas transplants are going to be as commenplace as say, heart, lung, transplants have become. On the face of it, I would of thought it would be no more complicated of a procedure than other vital organ transplants. What's the main reason for this?

In late april I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I am required to check my glucose levels 5 times daily and take shots of insulin at the same time. The insurance i have only covers 10% - 15% of my supplies and with the cost being about $250 a month it is not possible for me to afford. I am 22 years of age and have a steady job but only bring home about $1100 a month. I am afraid that I will not be able to provide for my son and purchase these supplies at the same time. I contacted my county health department and was told I make too much money. Does anyone know where or how I can get assistance or even supplies at no cost? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

I would like to switch to using an insulin pen, preferably one that uses the BD Ultra Fine III Short Pen Needles (or equivalent). I want a fast-acting insulin. What I am really confused about is the difference between Humulin N and Humulin R, mainly the difference in how quickly they work. I would prefer to stick with Lilly, as they make my other pen, Byetta, and would likely use the same type of pen needle.

Do you or do you know of someone who has diabetes, and you or them are taking care of it by eating right and exercising, and not taking any drugs. If that is working for you or them, what type of plan are you or they doing?

I know most of them contain sugar. But, is their any out there that doesn't have alot of sugar in them? Or any beer that can be had. I have a friend that is drinking alot of flavored shots like lemon drops etc. I want to tell her there is something out there she can drink. She won't drink a non-alcoholic drink. Before she kills herself.

I was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 years ago, although I know I've had it much longer. When I was diagnosed, I wasn't shocked or scared. My mother was diagnosed when I was much younger and I have watched her slip back and forth with the lifestyle. I wish I would have been terrified when I was diagnosed so it would be easier to change my lifestyle.
I still drink pop ( I'm absolutely addicted) and eat chocolate whenever I feel like it. I know it sounds crazy- my head knows I need to stop but I just can't. I eat whatever and whenever I please.
I'm on all kinds of medication but even with that I go through phases of taking it or not taking it. I'm even on nighttime insulin which I take intermittently.
After I eat, I pass out from high blood sugar ( its such a deep sleep that I feel as though I'm passed out). It usually passes in 2 hours though.
I suffer from depression, weight gain, high blood pressure, unbalanced cholesterols, chronic insomnia, skin problems, etc.
Help! Please!

I have been drinking more beer lately (had two people close to me die this year) and the day after I indulge I notice ravenous hunger pains. Could this be the first sign of becoming diabetic or hypoglycemic??

Alright, I have to urinate at least once every half hour. I think something is wrong with my kidneys but I went to the doctor and they couldn't find anything. Is there anything I can do so that I at least don't have to go all the time during class? Its really ridiculous cuz I have to leave like twice every class. It isn't diabetes though, because I had a urine sample.
