An 8 hour fast is sufficient to get accurate results. Fast means water or black coffee (totally black, nothing at all) only before the test. So, if you eat lunch at noon, the soonest a fasting test would be accurate is 8pm. You could eat breakfast at 8am and still get accurate results with a 4pm test, etc. The easiet way to do it is to eat supper, sleep, and have the test before you eat anything the next day. That way, you're sleeping during most of your fast, so that you aren't quite as famished.

Not only does it matter how long ago you've eaten (10-12 hours for an accurate reading), but it depends WHAT you've eaten.
If you want a reliable test, then eat what you normally eat. If you have a test after you've partied with beer, pizza and a lot of junk food, then your cholesterol levels and liver enzimes will be elevated and if that's not your normal diet, then you may be prescribed statins unnecessarily.
I discovered this inadvertantly when I was having my thyroid tested. Certain foods change your thyroid hormone levels and therefore the test won't be accurate if you eat them the day before testing.

I had an identical catch 22 concern and located that butter is greater organic and bigger processed by making use of your physique, yet has greater ldl cholesterol. i found the Land O Lakes butter with Canola oil a sturdy option. It has fewer components and nevertheless has the butter flavor and much less ldl cholesterol. Margarine does not even decompose in a landfill after some years yet butter does. which will inform you some thing.
