Do you or do you know of someone who has diabetes, and you or them are taking care of it by eating right and exercising, and not taking any drugs. If that is working for you or them, what type of plan are you or they doing?

Yes and yes. I still take a little Metformin, but many people who have tried the following have gotten off medication completely just through a good diet, exercise, and supplement routine. I've gotten off meds for awhile, but I was working out very hard. Read on....

For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems...

I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured. Read more about it here:

The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA:

For men: Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? I was. Yes, WAS. Now that everything's under control, I'm able to have nearly normal sex again. I've also put together a little webpage highlighting some of the things I've learned here:

It depends on what type of Diabetes a person has. If you have type 1 diabetes, like myself, your pancreas does not produce insulin at all. So, along with exercise and a well balanced diet, diabetes symptoms can be controlled. However, you still have to take medication to live. With type 2 diabetes, if you diet correctly and exercise you may not have to take medication, but that depends on weight issues and/or your body type. Gestational diabetes is what you get when you are pregnant. This requires a very strict diet also, and medication.

I am diabetic and I cannot control it with only diet and exercise. It is impossible for a type 1 diabetic to do this. Some type 2 can.

My husband is diabetic. It's not so much on what they eat. Watch their carbohydrates. If he has 4 - 6 carbs at meal time and a 2 carb snack in between meals his blood sugar is usually fine. He does work 40 hours a week. But as far as exercise we take a walk at night after dinner. He's been a diabetic for 7 years and this works for him.

My aunt has had diabetes for more than 20 years. She started off taking pills, then went on to taking insulin injections.

She began a diet using the book called "The G.I. Diet" by Rick Gallop. This is a simplified version of the Glycemic Index Diet - which was developed for diabetics. Very easy to use. My aunt has lost 50 pounds and her doctor says her blood sugar is so stable now, she can go back to taking pills instead of injections. Definitely worthwhile looking into. Pick it up at your local library or bookstore. There's also a website: www.gidiet.com.
