My teeth are extremely bad, and I haven't been to a dentist since I was in the 1st grade. I was wondering if you are put to sleep during a root canal. I heard they are the most painful things to bear (next to childbirth) but my friend had one and he played in our baseball game the same night.

I have several things I need to do and am not sure which order or the best way to do it. I need to do the following
Loose 50 lbs
Quit smoking
Quit taking Effexor.
I am not sure in which order I should do this. I KNOW quiting Effexor will be a long process. I have done this before and it took months. (Like 6)
For quiting smoking, I will be doing it cold turkey. I will not be using any of the quit smoking aids. (for financial reasons)
Does anyone have any advice for me as to the order I should work on this.
Thanks so much!!

I'm not really sure how to explain this... Throughout the day I suffer from no involuntary movements. But, when I go to bed, they start. When I lay down, and this is the weird part, I start moving uncontrollably, trying to get my feet away from the end of the bed and ducking under the window or away from a curtain that isn't basically taped to the wall surrounding the window. I know that, for some reason, these uncontrollable spasms occur when my comforter isnt positioned just right in the space between the end of my bed and my bookshelf. That's with a mix of my OCD i guess. If the curtains arent taped to the wall, it will happen, as if to be sure nobody can see me. It also happens if I enter a room with a clearly elevated door. If I can see the light or lack thereof on the other side, I have to run behind a counter or in a corner so as if, if you were trying, you couldn't see me through the crack, where I then have spasms for a bit. What the hell's wrong with me?

HI! On friday I burnt my leg with a clothing iron. It didn't hurt, and I was shocked to see hours later that it had blistered over. I thought nothing of it until it accidentally popped and drained a really gross clear fluid. The next morning, my leg was hurting, and I looked and it was beginning to get red around the burn. So I put some antibiotic cream on it, and now two days later, the redness around it has gotten a lot worse, and everything hurts my leg. Showering, walking, my pants, the bed covers. The burn itself is about four inches long and about two inches wide, and now with the redness around it, it's about 6 inches wide and about 6 inches long...I really don't want to go to the doctor unless Im about to die, is there any treatment that I can try and when should I know that I definantely need to go to have it checked out!

If your nerve cells die in the pulp, I read that your tooth could start to discolor. If you were to bring back those nerves would the discoloration disappear?

If nerve damage were to happen to your teeth, how would one go about fixing it?

Is there any way of regrowing tooth enamel? When we crack our knuckles, after a period of time our knuckles get bigger because of the extra bone that was generated to heal the cracked knuckles. Why doesn't that happen to teeth?

I've been a big guy my entire life but I knew I was in trouble when I hit 420lbs at just 26yo. I joined weight watchers and started working out with a personal trainer to get my life together and although i've hit some bumps, I'm down almost 50lbs. I'd like to stop at around 280-300lbs and try to build up muscle. I'm 6'4 and I don't want to get skinny, I'd like to have linemen build. Currently I diet and train 2-3 times a week with weights. I'm just afraid that if I drop all the weight my body will go from bad to worse with all the loose skin. I was just wondering if you worked out, dieted and maintained if being that size was still a danger. Also if you can grow into loose skin...Meaning that if I trained hard and built muscle, if the skin would fill out or will it always look awkward? Any help would be welcomed.

sometimes I'll get some type of weird feeling in my nose. It's kind of like a dense smell, but i'm not really smelling it, it's more like i am feeling it in my upper nose. Well, I have probably 10 different ones and whenever I get that feeling I get an extremely vivid memory of something very unimportant from a long time ago. Sometimes I'll forget about that feeling and it will come back randomly and I'll feel really familiar with that smell/feeling. I doubt anybody can relate to this, but is there some type of name for this?

What do I do? I'm 20 and not sure how to feel about it. I like it, but its wrong right?

Ok, i had a wisdom tooth extracted this morning. I have been following the instructions but somethings are concerning me.

1) I have a slight salty taste in my mouth. Is that normal?

2) I looked at the tooth and cannot see any blood clot there.. i hope I havent swallowed it or anything. Is it normal for there NOT to be any blood visible, or could that mean it hasnt healed properly.

I am particularly concerned because I am 38 weeks pregnant, so I obviously worried about infections/excessive pain etc as that could trigger labour I guess, or harm the baby in some other way.

I'm not a male, so I don't understand how you guys work. However, I went to bring my husband lunch today (he was working an off duty detail) and when I walked into the bank where he was doing the off duty detail he was sitting behind a desk reading the local newspaper. After handing him his lunch, he walked behind me to walk me out to my car and I noticed he was slightly erect. Should I be concerned about something he may have been doing before I arrived? Looking at another woman? Talking to another woman? Or was he really just reading the newspaper and it just happened? Can you guys become slightly erect during the middle of day with no sort of stimulation?

I was thinking the other day about the fact that on avergae sharks have 3,000 teeth, and that every time they lose one the back teeth push forward and replace it. When I thought about our teeth, and how we only have one row of 'replacing teeth' and those are our adult and baby teeth, I thought that wouldn't it be great if we could grow another tooth, if we lost our adult teeth? I do admit alot of dentists might be out of jobs, but is is even possible?

What obstacles would one have to battle to find a way for the body to regenerate the growth of a replacement tooth???

I'm a 30 year old woman with a strong family history of breast cancer. I will be 4th generation. I had a historectomy last year. I can't take HRT, so she put me on progesterone. It helped w/ the mood swings, but that was it. Now she has taken me off of it. She is sending me to a charity clinic in Shreveport (I don't have insurence). I have no clue when they will be able to see me and I can't take the hot flashes, mood swings, and NO sexual drive. And neither can my husband. I need advice on what i can do!!!!
