I've been a big guy my entire life but I knew I was in trouble when I hit 420lbs at just 26yo. I joined weight watchers and started working out with a personal trainer to get my life together and although i've hit some bumps, I'm down almost 50lbs. I'd like to stop at around 280-300lbs and try to build up muscle. I'm 6'4 and I don't want to get skinny, I'd like to have linemen build. Currently I diet and train 2-3 times a week with weights. I'm just afraid that if I drop all the weight my body will go from bad to worse with all the loose skin. I was just wondering if you worked out, dieted and maintained if being that size was still a danger. Also if you can grow into loose skin...Meaning that if I trained hard and built muscle, if the skin would fill out or will it always look awkward? Any help would be welcomed.

There's some debate on whether you can be large and healthy.

Some say that yes, you can, as long as you're fit and you eat healthy. Someone who works out daily and eats plenty of fruits and vegetables and takes it easy on salt and fat could possibly weigh a little more and still be healthy. Another who is sedentary and eats HoHos all day is a different story.

Then again, being big puts stress on your organs, especially your heart. For every extra pound you carry, your body has to make an extra mile of blood vessels. That's an extra mile your heart has to pump.

You say you've always been big. You may be genetically wired to be big. I recommend you see your doctor to find out what's healthy for you. If you choose to stay rather heavy, then make sure you get cholesterol and blood pressure levels checked regularly. Get regular check ups for your heart and prostate, too, since extra poundage can hurt both these organs.

Good luck!

If you work out and weight train you won't get the loose skin.
Muscle has more mass than fat. You need to convert the fat to muscle.
The reason the people who have the massive weight loss end up with loose skin is they don't do any weight training, they just loose the weight.
