that does not contain wheat, eggs, soy, dairy, peanuts or meat or poultry of any kind. I have food allergies and I am bored to tears with my limited diet. Hoping to find something from other cultures. Seafood and fish are ok. Thanks

I asked some Persian friends and they didn't know what houmus meant, but I thought it was eaten across the Middle East. Does anyone know if it is eaten or sold in Iran? The word is Arabic (not Greek), and is spelled حُمُّص. It is not a Greek dish, as commonly believed, but a Middle Eastern one. Perhaps it has a different name in Farsi. I'm planning to live in Iran for six months and I need good vegetarian foods to eat while there.

If you don't know what houmus is, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummus
