Food & Drink - 10 September 2006

Ok, My husband is coming home tomorrow from a long trip and is excited that I'm making dinner for him. He wants well seasoned t-bones, rice and collard greens.

Now I've never made them before and I have a frozen batch in the freezer. I don't care for their natural taste. So I've been looking for a simple bitterless recipe. But all the one's I've found require ham(hocks), bacon, and bacon grease. And I don't have any of those and I'm not going to beable to get any in the mean time.

I was hoping ya'll could get me your ideas and your ways to make collards.

Vegetarians, Vegans: is it okay to wear leather?

A lot of vegitarians I know talk endlessly (and self-riteously) about animal rights, yet wear leather shoes, hats, belts, jackets, etc. Isn't far worse to use an animal for adornment, rather than nourishment? What's with the hypocrisy?

What exactly is Japanese rice?

I want to make sushi, and the recipe states that I need to use Japanese rice. I know not to use American rice; the confusion comes from whether I should use sticky rice (used in Chinese cooking to make lo mei fan in dim sum) or just regular, non-glutinous Asian rice. The recipe site I visited referred to Japanese rice as sticky rice, so now I'm confused. :/

Has anyone ever eaten a Jeep?

why is it that everytime i make a homemade pizza?

the cheese is all burnt but the crust isn't done yet. Does anyone have a good recipe where this doesn't happen. Also I make the crust by using a regular bread recipe.

my sister claims to be vegetarian and some of her friends as well as mine and random people i've seen who also claim that but still eat fish. Last i checked fish are animals so why do vegetarians, or at least most of them, eat fish?

Why do oreos get soggy almost when you leave them out for a little while?

i found that when i leave an Oreo cookie out for a little bit, it gets chewy almost. but if i take it right out of the bag, its crunchy and hard. what causes that?
