Ok, My husband is coming home tomorrow from a long trip and is excited that I'm making dinner for him. He wants well seasoned t-bones, rice and collard greens.

Now I've never made them before and I have a frozen batch in the freezer. I don't care for their natural taste. So I've been looking for a simple bitterless recipe. But all the one's I've found require ham(hocks), bacon, and bacon grease. And I don't have any of those and I'm not going to beable to get any in the mean time.

I was hoping ya'll could get me your ideas and your ways to make collards.

for the lady that can't get laid.... I don't get a chance to cook very often. And I'm actually happy that people like to eat what I cook when I get to. I wouldn't be asking this question if I had the time to stay at home and cook all day. Why are you even in here responding to peoples questions if you can't even give a decent answer.

If you want em southern style. Fill your pot about 1/4 way up with water. Add salt and about 3 slices of bacon. You have to use fresh collard greens from the produce dept. Trim out the large stems at the top. Bring your water to a boil and pack your greens into the pot, bring down to simmer put the lid on and cook until tender.
go check in about 2 hrs. also the way to cook turnip greens.

HERE IS A FEWW RECIPES I FOUND ONLINE THAT DONT REQUIRE PORK.HOPE THEY MIGHT HELP!! GOOD LUCK !!

A favorite spicy Ethiopian side dish
Ayib Be Gomen, consists of chopped collards cooked with cottage cheese, lots of black pepper, butter and salt. Another Ethiopian collard dish, Ye'abesha Gomen, involves steaming them in olive oil, red onions, garlic, green peppers, and spices.

RECIPE 3:
salt and ground black pepper to taste,1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Ignore the first writer. There is nothing wrong with cooking for your man!!! I've never made collard greens, but I have watched my aunt cook them a few times. She uses smoked turkey (ex. turkey wings) instead of the ham or bacon. It adds a nice flavor with a lot less fat and calories.

Collard greens are very good steamed with granulated garlic (or real garlic minced on top as they are steaming) and then when steamed, remove from pot and drizzle a little hot pepper sesame oil and soy sauce on them and toss. This is also awesome with mashed potatoes. I'm getting hungry now!

I saute mine in a bit of chicken broth (but not too much or they'll get salty - I cut the broth down with water), onions and nutmeg.

I did find this recipe:

You sound like a Stepford wife. That is just apalling and embarrassing. Please join us here in the 21st century. Order in dem collard greens, your man won't even give an ounce of attention to them anyway.
