the cookie absorbs the moisture from the air..causing it to have a soggy texture..it's crunchy from the bag because moisture has a harder time getting in due to it being sealed

..kinda like gettin stale

Like everyone else said the moisture in the air. And I think they would be stale by the time they were soggy.

There are water molecules in the air. I'm sure you've heard of humidity reports.

Similarly, we should empty pills and other items into a cup or something rather than into our hand. If we put pills in our hand and then put the unused portion back in the bottle, we have put molecules of moisture etc on the pills going back into the bottle.

My guess is that you live somewhere in the south - or at least somewhere with high humidity. if the oreos are left out, they absorb the moisture from the air much more rapidly and quickly get 'soggy' - its gross. happy snacking :)

The cookie readily absorbs moisture (water) from the air. This makes it softer.

Store soft cookies in a container with a tight fitting lid, and crisp cookies in one that has a loose fitting lid.(might need to store yours in fridge.I wonder if you could microwave them a bit and wait a minute, then see if they get crispy again..
