my husband is in the military and i am a student so we are on a tight budget, especially with the recent gas prices which raised grocery prices. i need some healthy but cheap dinner ideas so we dont have to eat frozen dinners and unhealthy foods.

I am looking for some quick and easy recipes that r low in fat and calories and would utilize the food I get from the food pantrys. I am not a picky person how ever can't afford to buy any food and count on the pantrys to help me out so if you could help me with some recipes i would appreciate it.

from a scale from 1-10. 1 being still green 5 being pure yellow and 10 being brown, which one do u like the best? for me...its about a 7, i guess...they are sweeter that way! and by the way, why do they get sweeter the more ripe they are? does anyone know? and i know ur thinking "what kind of question is THIS?!?!?" but im really bored and it randomly popped into my head and i am asking it. for fun and to see waht people think.

Back home in Ohio, we have Handles, which makes THE BEST chocolate pecan ice cream, and pumpkin in the fall.
Ben and Jerry have yummy ice cream, too.
Then there is Coldstones... Where do you get the BEST ICE CREAM and whats your favorite flavor?

I invited a couple of my friends over to visit, and I would like some ideas on what to serve.

I don't want plain o'l sandwiches, salads, and baked potatoes even w/ the topping sounds boring.


I am making individual red velvet cakes w/ cream cheese icing.. because I have the pan that I never use! I am also making a mayo/sourcream based dip that has a shrimp type flavor,,(it is new orleans mix that I bought from a Kitchen store)
I could have strawberries or fruit//but this is just going to be a small meal.

What about :
Taco Salad?
Layered Mexican dip?

Any ideas will be considered....loll.

Name a recipe that was passed down from say Grandmother to your Mom then to you that you have actually made and maybe changed the way it was made? Mine would be my Grandmothers famous chicken and dumplings the only thing I changed about it was she made her dumplings from scratch and I make mine from can bisquits
