If you've got a 17 year old, technically since they're not 18 they're a child. So, if they needed discipline, is it okay to spank them as you would spank a child?

I want to get along with her, but all she wants to do is bad mouth him. He is a good dad, but the kids and her think he is too strict. If I agree with him, then I am the enemy. She likes me as long as I don't agree with him.
She thinks it is ok for the kids to lie to him. The kids live with us every other week. They are 14 and 16. This has been going on for 5 yrs. How can I be friends with her and not have to take sides with her and the kids. He is a great Dad and is completely devoted to his kids, and they think he is an idiot. What would you do? I've talked to him and he says he can't do anything about the way she talks about him to the kids.

This is a relatively new problem. It just start about 2 nights ago. I go to wake her up and she has her thumb in her mouth and is sucking on it. My boyfriend and I are both concerned. She's not mine biologically. I say that to continue an explanation. It appears as a form of regression to me. The problem is, we don't know whats causing her to do this or why she would do it. Maybe some past psychological issue coming up now about her mother? How do I get her to stop sucking her thumb, she's 9, she doens't need to do that. Why would she be doing this all of a sudden?

OK, so I'm 19, and I keep trying to move out of my mothers house for some independance. I have a place to go and with my budget I can afford it. BUT my mother keeps telling me that if I move out before my car is paid off then she'll take it from me. The car is in her name, and she knows that i'm going to do everything I can to keep the car because it was the first this that I really worked to "Earn" on my own. I owe a lil over $3,000 on it and it'll take me a lil over 6 months to pay it off, but I want to move out NOW! My mother and I don't have the best relationship and I feel that it's time for me to get out and make a life for myself, without her, yet she still thinks that she can dictate everything that I do. Why does she do this? and What can I do about it?!?

I am worried about my fiance's 8 year old niece. I'm not living with her yet. Her sister and niece live with her for the time being. I'm very concerned about her niece, after a recent conversation with her. My sister-in-law is a 24 year old "career bartender" (c o k e s l u t), and doesn't know who her daughter's father is. She married a guy when she was 18 and he accpeted the little girl as his own, but she cheated on him and they divorced. The little girl calls that guy dad - and he tried to get custody of her with no success. My fiance let them move in with her, for the sake of the niece... but it's not working, because the sister is pretty worthless and disrespectful. Now, my fiance and I are getting married, and expecting a little boy in Feb. So the sister has to move out. I'm afraid of what will happen to the little girl, but need to focus my energy and resources on MY new family. The little girl is well on her way to becoming just like her mom. And it breaks my heart!!! :(

I have been living common law with my better half for nearly 16 years . In that time my husbands brothers and their wives have had kids and it is only family members that have a wedding liscence that are called aunty .I am called just by my first name and this really hurts. My kids (ages 4 and 6) have been asking if they can visit their dad. We've been apart since 2003. So I call their dad and leave messages that the kids would like to see him, but he doesn't return the calls. So far I've told the kids "he must be at work" but in reality, he rarely has a job and when he does, it isn't full time. Kids are not stupid and they know about how answering machines work. What can I tell my kids to explain why their dad doesn't visit them, without lying and without hurting their feelings?

They've been asking for about a month. In the past he has visited with them occasionally and he lives in the same city as us.

aww im going soon (if GOD allows me and i get accepted in the visa meeting) to the united states for the first time. i will be stayin in scranton, PA. after that im going to Vail Village, CO and finally to disney world. can any one tell me if this places are nice? i know disney is an unforgottable experience but the others two? ... wheres the best clothing store deals? best cultural and natural places to visit? let me know! im soo happy and glad this is happening to me. my bf family is soo great to me and his grandmother invited me to disney. arent they amazing? they let me stay at their house. i dont have to pay any peny for it.
