When my son was 2'ish he would play with my daughters dolls, clothes, make up and jewelry, but he's 5 now and doesn't want to have anything to do with it. Not because of what we (my husband and I) have said, but just because he doesn't find it interesting anymore.

I don't think it's a bad thing...if he's having fun and keeping himself occupied then let him play.

I often wonder the same thing. My 7 year old boy never had a want to do that......but my 3 year old just today asked me to buy him the Little Mermaid movie, and he plays with his cousins barbies, and polly pockets.I just think it's kind of weird. Not right or wrong. I let him do these things so I guess I would say weird not wrong. Only because I played with hot wheels, and motorcycles when I was a little girl, and I ended up okay not scarred or anything.
good luck with that:)

I think it's perfectly ok - even good - for kids to be exposed to all kinds of toys. It's only culture that dictates what's appropriate for girls or boys. I have 2 girls and 1 boy, and they all play together, whether it's dolls or cars. I don't make a big deal about any of it, and I think it's absolutely fine.

Let the kid play! I had three brothers and I was more interested in playing with their toys than my own. I hardly every played with dolls. I would play with trucks, trains etc.all the time. There is nothing wrong with him playing with dolls. Just love your child and go with the flow. Take Care & God bless

I found from a child psychology class that it not only stimulates their minds to play with both sex toys but in playing with small doll clothes like Barbie's it helps, boys especially, develop dexterity in their finger tips. There's nothing wrong with it, don't pigeon hole him to just play with footballs and kiddie plastic powertools. Let him just play and enjoy.

When my son was two,he wanted a barbie in the worst way.I bought it for him,my husband nearly hit the roof.Big deal,he wanted a barbie. He played with it for about a month and then forgot about it.He didn't know that it was "supposed" to be a girls toy,he just wanted to play with it.Children at that age don't know that toys are for boys or girls,it's just a toy to them.I played with matchbox's when I was young, still have them in fact.It didn't make me a lesbian or hurt me in who I turned out to be.

Yes! Children don't understand the difference between "girls" and "boys" toys. It doesn't make them gay or anything. its like girls want to play with cars instead of dolls that doesn't make them lesbians. Children need the interact with different sorts of toys for their development.

Because we are older we know who the toy industry is trying to reach with each toy; a doll-girl a truck-boy, but a teo year old doesn't know the difference and doesn't care. if they like the toy let them play with it!

There is nothing wrong with boy's playing with girl's toys at that age. He will soon figure out on his own what his gender 'role' is.

No...at that age it entertains the kid. They'll be no lasting effects. However if he's 22 and still doing so then perhaps you may have a problem there.
