If you've got a 17 year old, technically since they're not 18 they're a child. So, if they needed discipline, is it okay to spank them as you would spank a child?

As a parent myself i say YES spoil the child when u spare the rod. But at 17 Pre-Adult should not be spanked. If they are taller then you are stand on a chair and knock the SHIIT out of them. Sometimes a very long conversation helps. Take away somethings. But the best action to take is A baseball bat, broom, a show or anything hard to can be thrown and handled well will do.
I have two nephews and i refuse to hurt myself trying to spank them so Me, being 5'1 punch in the chest or where ever to get their attention. TRUST ME IT WORKS

No. Also, is spanking the right answer at any age? I have three children, the oldest of which is 22, so I don't approach this without experience.
When you hit a child, you are teaching that child that violence is the answer to deal with a problem. Why don't you try to talk to the child, or if s/he is too young to understand, try time-out or taking away a favorite toy or activity. These alternatives truly work.

LOL. Do you really think that is going to work? Please don't tell me you are serious. If you think that, then you got a serious problem. You are doing nothing but fixating your teenager into childhood. Your disciplining changes as does your child. You don't sit down and talk to a baby when they run and spill and drop things on the floor and expect them to listen? You spank them, tell them no, no , or put them in time out. Spanking goes out of effect by the time they are in the 4th or 5th grade. I just hope you are playing with that question.

17 is too young for spankings for me I'm afraid. Most of the bad girls I spank are probably closer to your age. I think maybe you need to get a little more creative in punishing your child. If 17 years of spanking hasn't solved your problem what do you think one more will accomplish.

Do you think that will work? I am not sure that spanking a 17 year old will do the trick. Try taking things away. Take driving the car away, computer, things like that. Should get them to pay attention to you.

you cant spank a 17 yr old unless you're around 17 yrs old yourself and then well you better be alone lol.......but i know you're talking about discipline and well lets face it the only way to discipline a 17 yr old is by taking things away or at least making them stay home w/out any outside contact!

Yes, and technically they are NOT a CHILD but a young man/woman. You may be up against sexual assault charges for having contact with the females buttocks and a male will kick your *** which it sounds like you need for even asking such a stupid ?.

I don't believe that it's neccessarily wrong, but there are other alternatives that would work much better. Besides all it takes is a call to the police these days and its considered child abuse.
