Come January, I am attending a convention/seminar of and for fashion designers, fashion merchandisers and retailers, garments and textile manufacturers, and companies and corporations engaging in the business of making and selling clothes. The topic that will be discussed is our role as makers of clothes and protectors of Mother Earth, and the way our line of business is affecting the onslaught of Global Warming.

I might want to raise some questions during this seminar.....what are good and relevant questions to ask that's in connection with my profession as a fashion designer?

Every time I leave water sit out in a container of any kind (plastic cup, plastic water bottle, metal cat water bowl), it fills all up with tiny bubbles clinging to the sides of the container. I've never had such bubbleage in previous apartments. What do they mean? Is there something weird going on with the water or temperature or air quality in my apartment?

Is this the only stratagy to continue the survival AND prosperiety of mankind without causing a total enviromental collapse , or completely running out of resources due to them being managed in a way that is NOT sustainible? If the enviroment could be kept healthy worldwide and resources managed in a way that they are renewed, in the amounts needed, so they never run out, wouldn't this allow for prosperiety without it being a threat to survival into the future forever? or if that's not possible at the very least would it push those two events as far into the future as humanly possible, degrading the enviroment as slowly as possible, and streching resources as far as they can go, as long as it is continueally attempted on a daily and yearly basis? Either event occouring would, of course, totally collapse civilization, also meaning the economy would cease to exsist meaning NOONE would make ANY more money, meaning capitalists have just as much vestited intrest in this as anyone, right?

I'm not talking about Biodiesel or Waste Vegetable Oil. I'm talking about Straight Vegetable oil, or Pure Plant Oil. Its the same stuff the restaraunts buy to cook with, but you buy it yourself before they foul it up. 50 cents a gallon is typical, and it will run in any diesel once its warmed up (requires a two tank system with regular #2 diesel for cold starting.) I researched WVO (waste vegetable oil) use and it can be damaging if not filtered well. Biodiesel costs the same as diesel in my area(phoenix AZ). Thats why SVO (Straight Vegetable oil) is a better choice. Has anyone actually done this? Not theoretically, but actually, can this really be done and is it cost
effective for a company with a 5 truck home service fleet? We spend $6000 per month on fuel so this cheap fuel thing sounds to good to be true.

Forests clean the air and water and provide emotional calmness to the landscape.

In suburban communities, forests are being cleared for construction of malls, dealerships, and housing developments.

How is nature supposed to stay sustainable when all the forsent ecosystems are being disturbed and more pavement hits the ground? How much forestly is enough to keep it balanced?

I'm glad i bought it really presents facts well, ie the form of hard scientific data. It really provides an excellent case for the fact the global warming caused by human pollution is happening to our detriment. Remember that we caused a massive hole in the ozone layer above the south pole, so don't say that its ridiculous to say humans cannot alter the atmosphere, because we can.

The documetary really shows how the good ol' USA is lagging behind the rest of the world and not following the kyoto protocol probably to their detriment. Things like american car companies GM and ford are on the fall and unable to sell their cars in asia as they do not meet basic anti-pollution requirements.

I am not aware of the recorded emergence of an entirely new species of mammal, fish or other higher organism. If a new species is to emerge, reproduce and become dominant in a few million years, surely we should see frequent evidence of new species emerging within a short time frame of maybe thousands or even hundrerds of years.

Yes or no, why or why not. Thanks to all.

1. Are you concerned about depleting the planet of fossil fuels and the connected problems of pollution, environmental degradation, resource wars, etc?
2. Is switching to a renewable source of power for your home in your plans within the next 5 years?
3. Would you switch to solar electric panels (PV panels) if you didn't have to pay any more than what you now pay for electricity? (no investment, installation or maintenance cost)

I consider overpopulation THE major issue because it contributes to every other problem we have: gas shortages, high prices, air and water pollution, global warming, water shortages, loss of open space, endangered species, etc. We can't make progress with these problems unless we do something about overpopulation. There are many incentives we could use to encourage people to have smaller families (e.g., do away with the per child tax credit, deductions for the first two children only). Each person on this planet needs to pay his/her way! Do we want to be REACTIVE like China where having more than one child is illegal or PROACTIVE, providing incentives to having fewer children? I just can't celebrate the U.S. reaching 300 million this year (source: www.populationconnection.org)

Per gallon of gasoline I wanted to know what the approx. break down is of "energy" to produce (refine) per gallon of energy. Perhaps a breakdown of items. This would include 'diesel' for ships to transport oil, trucks, 'electricity', 'natural gas', etc. at the refinery.
