probably a toss-up. since real trees must be cut with a chain saw. transported by truck to the store. artificial trees add to pollution also from the factory where they are made and the process in creating them.

First what is not friendly to our environment about a Tree and lights. U must be talking about the CO2 produced from the generation of electricity. Mother nature solved that problem a few million years ago. When mother nature introduced plants which absorbers CO2 and gives us back oxygen . The plants have done such an excellent job that there was never a problem to start with.

I'm sure no-one is going to like this, but I don't believe in Global warming caused by humans. So I get me a real tree, because it smells nice, then I have a family event, and cover it decorations and lights with my wife and kids. Then on New Years Day we have another family event, called a Bon Fire, we drink Hot Coco and talk about the past year and what our goals are for the coming year.

definitely real , especially if you replant it after the festivities , better than that become a plymouth brethen - they don't celebrate christmas !

I'm with C.J all the way. I don't like bouquets of flowers either.....they look much better in the ground.
