Big Oil and other big corporations would lose a lot of money if they had to clean up their messes. So they just buy the politicians instead. Most other people want to help, but are too caught up in day-to-day survival to do anything about something they can't really see as an immediate threat. You can't really go buy a new fuel efficient car if you still owe two years of payments on the old one and you owe more than it's worth. So you do what you can. I vote for candidates who support environmental issues. I try to limit how much I drive. I buy organic foods when possible. Our family uses no napkins or paper towels, linen dinner napkins instead. It doesn't seem like much, but it could be if more people did it.

Global warming is beyond needing to be proven - it's a fact. In fact latest numbers I've seen say the North Pole will no longer exist during the summer months in about 25 years.
The 'Industrial Revolution' is controlling the world right now, and the 'Industrial Revolution' doesn't consider consequenses of it's actions. It uses the earth as a garbage dump and we are past the point of no return - we already live in our own waste. There is no more 'clean' air, we are almost out of fresh water and will soon be drinking foul water and telling ourselves it's OK as long as the impurities are under a certain number.

We cannot stop global warming because most of us are slaves to the comforts and conveniences that urban civilization allows us. 1) Global warming will be significantly reduced if we gave up driving cars and other vehicles that are driven by petroleum. It's silly to think this is going to happen. 2) Global warming will be significantly reduced if we stopped travelling by aircraft. Silly to think this is going to happen. 3) The armed forces in all countries use the most petroleum in the country. Silly to think any country's armed forces bother with gloabl warming. 4) The same applies to using air conditioners, lawn mowers, electricity (computers especially). 5) Lastly, and the most important factor of all, all of the above will be easier to achieve if all of us stopped !!ing so much to have babies. Everybody who has a baby is a cause of global warming. Every time you get horny, you are being tempted to !! up the planet. 6) Since !!ing rich people, and !!ing Government Armed Forces and !!ing people who have to have babies don't give a !!t about global warming, I think the rest of us, too, should forget about trying to help the world. Get the most fun and comfort you can, and let the !!ing world take care of its !!ing self!

Global warming is not a scientific fact, as yet. It seems to be pure alarmism, seeking political gains.
Deforestation has more to do with poverty and ignorance.
It pushes poor people to deforestate (by burning) and cultivate (with very poor results) a land which is free to grab because of political reasons (the poor are many and they vote).
Ignorance and poverty should be solved first.

So many humans seem rather hard-wired to reproduce willy-nilly than to clean up their own messes that will endanger their offspring!
There seems to be no long-range plan of any sort other than the self-centered 'get what you can while you can' mind-set!

It costs. Who is going to pay more taxes for something they can't see - until their house floods?
