What is the general consensus about the subject in the u.S?
From an outside perspective it seems you couldn't give a damn, but this can't be the case surely. The UK is taking steps in the right direction, but things are slow..

Assuming that we are not realistically going to give up our high-tech, consumer societies any time soon, would it be better to have some of the most heavily-polluting processes out in space? This would seem to be a major savings to the earth’s environment. Mining and manufacturing, along with the heavy energy usage that goes with them, are a major cause of environmental destruction on earth. Raw materials could be mined and processed in space, then the processed materials sent back to earth (gliding to the earth’s surface like space shuttles do). The sun could provide the energy, and the moon and asteroids would be the major sources of materials. Except for oil (for plastics) virtually every other raw material can be found throughout the solar system. What would be some other arguments for and against doing this?

what do you think would happen if america's greatest inventor (t.v.show), issued a challenge to americans to invent a new fuel or energy source. do you think that the media could pull it off without any redtape from oil co.'s or politicans? do you think it would be a good thing to try?

We have a lot of problems like Global Warming, Ice Ages, Floods, Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Volcanoes and etc. Do you think that Global Warming will be "Global Cooling" when we take care of Earth like not throwing trash on the ground, playing with fire etc. Amd cam we stop Floods from happening by building more dams, and stop Earthquakes from damaging building by buildings that can stand the magnitude of Earthquakes? One more question should we build more dome looking homes so homes won't get destroyed by Hurricanes? (These questions came from a 5 year old that is worried about disasters)

Would I still need to be concerned about carbon monoxide build up if I converted to a heat pump system for my home. I have no appliances that use gas. Could I then get rid of my carbon monoxide detector?

I was considering the "hot" issue [excuse the pun] of Global Warming and Climate Change.

I learned from meteorologist Tom Skilling that just 1% of our atmosphere consists of "greenhouse gases"--they are: H2O, Co2, HC4, and O3.
[water vapor; carbon dioxide;
methane; and ozone.]
{Chicago Tribune, 6-3-06}

Further, that CO2 accounts for 63% of the warming effect, while methane supplies 23% of it. That's 86%, with the last 14% shared by ozone and water vapor.

But the point is this: ALL mammals breathe, exhaling carbon dioxide.

AND, that the more successful a species is, its number increase, while the numbers of other species declines.

Considering the Gaeia hypothesis, could we say that in terms of energy consumption ( not sheer numbers) --that the TOTAL amount of Living Beings on this planet is somehow fixed and constant?

(I'm not suggesting how we could measure that)

And could there be a combined
"Law of Conservation of Life and Death" ?
