I'm going to a conference for four days, including this coming Thursday and Friday. I teach an honors English course and two Spanish I courses. English will be finishing reading the play Medea, and Spanish will be learning to conjugate -ar ending verbs.

My inclination is to have English finish reading the play and leave a writing prompt or two and to leave a 20-page worksheet packet for Spanish in which they review every concept we've covered so far, including the -ar conjugation.

I hear movies are not the best choice.

Suggestions?

PS, our school runs on 90-minute blocks.

...should tell their students their personal opinions on such things as politics and whatnot? I personally dont think they should. For one thing, it can mislead students to be biased to a certain standpoint when they need to decide things themselves. I dont think it's smart to say who they vote for and stuff.

The lady who works behing the desk at my school thinks I'm a special kid! When I give her my Drivers Ed sighn-up forms I think she throws them away. They let the older kids in first. My friend, who is 5 months younger than me got in. I'm passing all my classes which is more than the requirement for DE. I'm always in there trying to sighn up and asking questions, or at least I feel like I am. It seems everyone knows things that I don't. I feel confused and unsure all the time but I'm just a freshman. I once asked her where the computer lab was and her dirrections led me to the special kids' computer lab (it's a big school, so they have their own lab) where I was imediately confronted by the teacher and given directions to the normal computer labs. I guess I'm a bit odd but I usualy don't worry about people thinking I'm special. My real concern is getting into Drivers Ed. How do I show her I'm mentally fit to drive? I don't want to make a big deal or get parents/principal involved.

I recently went to a district-wide textbook sale and purchased about 10 textbooks that interested me. After I selected one, worked through a lesson, and did the practice problems, I realized that the student editions of the textbooks didn't contain any answers. Any suggestions as to how I should check my work or aquire the answer keys to the textbooks?

The textbook companies really make it hard for independent learners to check their answers. I suppose that this greatly cuts down on the student just copying the answers in the back, but a textbook is worthless to an independent learner without the key.

Would anyone know of a reputable, legitimate school or company that would recruit teachers with only an ESL certificate? Sites I often visit are www.jobsinjapan.com or www.esljobs.com and many of the positions require a minimum of a bachelor's degree, which is understandible but I wondered if there might be serious opportunities for people without this.

Any information or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I read an article in the newpaper stating that parents think that their kids get way too much homework over the weekend. I agree and all, I mean really! Isn't the weekend suppose to be break from work? You go to school do work...and over the weekend...do more! Projects that you are given for a long period time I can understand. Does anyone agree with me?

I have a small group of two students that are in high school but functioning in reading on the second or third grade level, they have already been introduced to prepostions but are not really getting the jist of it, does anyone have any ideas of an activity or a game that I can do to help them get it better? Thanks!
