Would anyone know of a reputable, legitimate school or company that would recruit teachers with only an ESL certificate? Sites I often visit are www.jobsinjapan.com or www.esljobs.com and many of the positions require a minimum of a bachelor's degree, which is understandible but I wondered if there might be serious opportunities for people without this.

Any information or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you.

As far as I know, having a bachelor's is an absolute to teach in Japan. You don't qualify for a working visa without it. All language schools and recruiting companies require you to produce a Uni degree on the basis of which they apply for your visa. ESL certificate is definitely an asset but more or less useless in Japan without a bachelor's.

On the other hand if you reside in Japan (say, on a (Japanese) spouse visa), you would probably be able to negotiate with the companies or schools on the basis of your ESL Certificate. They advertise for minimum requirement as bachelor's mainly to meet the visa requirements. If you are under 30, I'd suggest you to try for a working holiday maker visa and search for the avenues. I'm sure you'll come across many. Good luck with your endeavours!!

you have to have a bachelors to teach. No real way around it.

It has to do with Visas, sponsorship and the fact that schools advertise that ALL their teachers are college educated.
