In my company, it is art. Very bad art. The kind of art you would only get as a present from somebody you don't like. The kind of art that kills canaries when you put it at the bottom of their cage to catch their droppings.

Management styles reflect the culture and society that they exist in, which is much like art. A successful management style in Asia is much different than one is America. A science is something that has immutable proof that doesnt change with societies. (Gravity works everywhere = team centered productivity may not)

It's a science if you think in terms of scientific categories--definitions of how things work from the inside. That includes what you know about people and companies.
It's an art if you're hung up on outward appearances, because you can't have any science unless you think beyond concretes, stereotypes and bigotries.
