I read an article in the newpaper stating that parents think that their kids get way too much homework over the weekend. I agree and all, I mean really! Isn't the weekend suppose to be break from work? You go to school do work...and over the weekend...do more! Projects that you are given for a long period time I can understand. Does anyone agree with me?

i sure do! i just finished school, and i think if teachers dont have enough time to teach their subject in class time than the sylibus should be cut back, we should learn what we need to in their time, thats wat its desiginated for!

Although you have a point, you have to understand that most high school teachers give out homework for practise and/or long term assignments only; at least, that's the way it should be! You also have to look at it from the teachers point of view: teachers must teach a minimum number of standards set by the state you live in each day, and these are tested as 'benchmarks' and state tests at least every 6 weeks or so, and if there is a high failure rate on those tests, it falls back on the teacher, who could be reprimanded or even fired. Because of the demand on the teacher's time, they can only cover so much information during a class period and usually give homework for practise to make sure you understand the concepts that were taught during that lesson. If I have to give out homework, I try to give my students work that can be completed in less than 30 minutes because I know that I'm not their only teacher, and that they probably have work or practise for other courses. If the load is too much, ask yourself first, if there is anything you can do for yourself in class that you haven't been doing. For instance, are you playing around in class? Listening? Getting your 'class' work done in a reasonable time? Then decide, Does this happen every weekend? If so, then you might want to talk with the teacher and find out why he/she gives out work for the weekend. Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!

yeah, i agree that we are given way too much homework. i was reading in the hearld the other day that they now think that before your last 2 senior years homework is completely useless and is part of reason behind deteriorating social skills. also lots of parents have just been doing the homework for the kids so they arent really learning anything from it anyway. i think the issue is more about the amount of homework kids are given. in high school you get so much work for each class its so hard to see where to begin and when you have so much its hard to think about and you don't end up doing any of it and fall behind even more. eek! infact i should be doing homework now instead of answering questions. lol

I actually disagree, in Portland Oregon, most teachers that I know have students do all their homework during the week and turn it in on Frdiay so they have the weekend off. While we spend the weekend grading papers.

no. sorry. Been there, done that, and I survived. And hile I was dong homework, and thinking I was so screwed, I was not out getting into meth, getting STDs, or stealing my neighbours hubcaps.

Now, I am better, smarter and faster than the ******* who blew off homework and went to play during highschool. I will retire and start going on holidays while they still are stuck in a factory making peanuts for pay. They will work til they are too old, and live in a shawl with no heat and no steak when they retire. Or they will be theives. I know one guy who is bound for jail now I went to school with. When I retire, at age 45, I intend to play a lot then. In style. While the slackers have to hack out another 20 years before retiring to sweet nothing.

Read some of the postings on this site. Look at the poor grammar, spelling and sentence structure. What kind of professions do you think these people will find? How much money do you think they will make in their life? How much home work do you think they did? Do some research on students in other countries and see how much home work they have and then compare their education level to ours. Sorry but you have it easy and your high school education level compares to about an 8th grade education 30 years ago.

Math and English I understand; but everything else no way. Some stuff takes practice and you also have to factor in the "I am your one and only teacher" attitude in education. I have been there in school and college, I know what you are thinking my friend. :)

I think homework helps you understand more about what you are studying and you could understand it by working on the problems. homework is not bad at all
