I have agreed to tutor two children in math - they'll be in 3rd & 7th grade, and have been in alternative schooling for 3 years and are far behind. What topics do kids that age do now in math? When do they do multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, pre-algebra, etc. Any input will be much appreciated. I have experience teaching math but have no idea what each grade does, and want to help these kids as much as possible.

I'm tired of living from paycheck to pay check so i decided to go back to school and be something; however I do not know what it is. I'm in my early 30's and have 3 kids so I need something that won’t take all my time and is not too hard. I only completed High school. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm teaching a computer class in a Catholic school for only one hour/day on top of my public school teaching schedule. (I just found out today and school starts next Tuesday.) I'm not Catholic, nor do I go to church. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.

I am going to a high school, and I am very nervous.
On the first day of school all of the freshmen in the school, are having an orientation, or whatever.
They didn't give us a map to the school, and I am very nervous.
What is an orientation, are they going to show 400 kids around the school or something?
Please help me, thank you so much guys! :)

Hi.

My oldest child starts his first day of school today. I think it's important for me to be involved in his school and in his education as a whole to serve as an example that I think his education important.

I don't what my son to grow up thinking that I am too busy working to care about his grades and such. I would like to create the illusion that his schooling is more important to me than my own job.

I work a 40 hour a week job, and I am lucky enough to keep a 6AM-3PM schedule, but I have a 1 hour commute to get home.

What kinds of PTA programs can I participate in that allow me to only participate after 4PM or on the weekends.

I have taken a look at the PTA website for my son's school, but it wasn't very informative, and it looked like most of the meetings and such were during the day.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Ever since 6th grade, I've been stuttering on the letter S. For example, Imagine a classroom and we're reading out of the textbook. The teacher calls on students every paragraph or so. My nervousness get's really high and my heart starts beating fast. When I'm called on, I read the paragraph, and sometimes I stutter on words that begin with an S, like "some, such, sing, something, solo, star, symphony, special" etc. I usually stutter when the S word begins a new sentence. Sometimes I intentionally just drop my pencil and grab it, then skip the S word or replace it like I misread it, even though I didn't. So, is there anyway to help me stop stuttering those S's? Please help :) By the way, I'm gonna be a freshman. First day of school TOMORROW :( I'm so excited/nervous I can't sleep, haha.

I barely got by last year without killing myself, and school starts tommorow. I really ******* hate school, nothing they teach me will help me in the future since I want to be a musician. Plus I lost alot of my friends since my minds always on music now, I just ignore everyone and just think of ideas for new songs. So how can I get by my last year of high school.

I take issue with the public school my kids attend enforcing super strict dress codes for this year when they wouldn't even enforce the old one! One extream to another! If you enforce a reasonable dress code in the first place uniforms aren't needed! My daughter can't even wear colored socks or shoes to match her polo shirt, it's just gone too far. Both have to be nuetral beige, white, or black. And YES I do beoeive school is for learning first but social and self expression are a part of the learning process. This in my opinion is a form of socialism.
Expecting everyone to conform, it lacks the freedom that this country was built on.

This is my opinion (do you agree/disagree and why?)

I think it's stupid to wear uniforms. In real life, you're going to be judged on what you wear and that's life. That's how people are. Don't like it? OK, don't like it. But nothing is going to change. Students might as well get used to some people caring about what they wear and some not caring. They might as well just get used to being made fun of, but also finding some good friends.

Wearing uniforms, you may think, prevents "distractions". Then, what about sports? And clubs? And social events? Aren't they distractions? What are you pro-uniform people going to do with those? By taking away all these things, you're actually WORSENING the student's study abilities because you're not letting them have fun at school.

I have to wear a uniform in my school just so it can be fair with everyone , because not everyone can buy the most expensive clothes , I don't think it takes away creativity . We sometimes have free dress days in which we can wear anything we want .
