I live out in tree country (the Northwest). Did you know there are more trees planted in the United States today then there ever was in the past? Where I live the lumber companies replant every time they cut trees.

Because the people who are doing the most devastating destruction of trees are uneducated and either have no clue what they are doing or don't care because they need money to feed their families. This is the case in the South American rain forests in Brazil, where people are removing trees the most. They are making pasture land for cows to graze. The meat from these cows is sold to McDonalds and turned into hamburgers. If people didn't eat so many McDonalds hamburgers, the natives of the S. American rainforests wouldn't have as much reason to keep destroying the trees to make more pastureland.

A simple solution to the problem; no more writing assignments or reports on paper!!! I think paperwork is the biggest cause of tree destruction. Instead, students and workers should be able to just e-mail it all in a Word document.
