I think the true purpose of education is to develop each individuals creativity, perspective of the world, and general knowledge. I think two of the most important things learned through education are the ability to think for yourself and the ability to gain an understanding of others. I believe education should give everyone the ability to live in the world as well as change the world.

Well, the dictionary defines school as "a place of learning" and we are technically learning all throughout our entire lives. So, therefore, life is one by school and one big learning experience. So, the purpose of education is somewhat of a motivation to go out and take risks, make mistakes, learn from anything and everything, anyone and everyone. If you're willing to go out, be open to making mistakes and getting an education from it, then you're in a way improving your life by becoming more intelligent and being able to pass on so many more facts and wise informations. So, in short, the purpose of education is a motivation to live life to the fullest and keep an open mind to everything that could happen.

Education is supposed to prepare you for the "real world" job market, which it does not. Although it does teach us to think critically, and effectively solve problems. Also the "trade" education system is often overlooked, but the people educated there are keeping our way of life intact everyday. I learned most of what I needed to know from life and interacting with people and reading (which we didn't do very much of in my public school system).

So...

1. Social Networking with your peers
2. Critical Thinking
3. Learning if you want to CONTINUE your education.

29, I could never work in a school.

Our world is getting developed. Too advanced. And lots of new projects and companies are blasting up. The whole society is educated and working in some hot field. If you are not educated and is not aware of anything you stand blinking at the world's events and processes. Not only that, everyone likes their spouse to be educated in some or the other hot fields.

I think that there are certain studies that allow us to throw off our ideological complacencies. In other words, certain humanities allow us to recognize how our original notions, that we once considered 'obvious' and 'natural' are anything but. Something as radical as our understanding of human sexuality, for example, or the ways in which humans see their relationship with society, can be challenged in a study of, say, the ancient Greeks.

Humanities also allow us to cultivate our critical faculties. We can understand that certain modes of expression are unfair and propagandic figurings rather than careful and appropriate representations. A very basic example might be that, fairly early on in a GCSE course for English literature, we understood the inherent risks of describing the events of 1939 as "Vegetarian urges imperial expansion".

These are all fairly basic examples, but you get my drift.

As for the age and occupation: I'm a 20 year old English student at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. I hope that helps for your class.
