I have to wear a uniform in my school just so it can be fair with everyone , because not everyone can buy the most expensive clothes , I don't think it takes away creativity . We sometimes have free dress days in which we can wear anything we want .

You see , I was raised in the Philippines for about 7 years . The reason why I have a good understanding of the uniform conduct is because of the place I lived in . The reason why the Philippines makes a rule on uniforms is because they want to save the amount of cotton they produce so they can make more clothing , so if everybody were to wear uniforms it would save a lot more . But here , I can express myself just as much as I want to by wearing any clothes I want to . However , when it comes to school , studying will become my top priority , I'll wear the clothes I want to once I'm outside of campus so I have no problem at all .
I was raised in a country where you can barely survive if your a second class . Now that I'm here I wouldn't want to waste this oppurtunity .

I currently wear a uniform to school. They're not that bad, but it gets annoying because I don't get to wear what I like and/or what looks good on me. I'm always worrying about how I look in my uniform compared to the other girls. Since you're wearing the same thing as everyone else it's easier to point out the flaws in each other. As far as having uniforms so that the less fortunate students don't get made fun of because of how they dress, that doesn't really happen. Just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it's ugly, same goes for just because it's expensive doesn't mean it looks good. Since our uniforms are sort of bought on your own, it still goes and since you're buying the same thing, but different brands and somewhat style, the poorer people are going to have cheaper uniforms... It's how it works even with uniforms. It's also inconvenient [and more expensive] because I have 2 sets of clothes. I have my uniform clothes, and all of my other clothes. That creates a financial burden on the students parents. In my opinion it doesn't necessarily hurt anything, it just doesn't seem to help it either...

My children attend a private school where uniforms are worn. Uniforms are bought through the school so everyone dresses exactly the same. I feel it takes the focus off what you are wearing and gives more time for the important stuff-like learning. They get free dress days from time to time and can wear what they want in their spare time. It also keeps the dress appropriate and proper. I have seen some children dressed for school like they are going to the club. My daughter is 13 and she says she dont mind. If we all dressed in uniforms some of these high priced clothing stores would come down on their prices a little. What one pair of jeans costs I can dress my child for the entire week. thats Money spent on more important things like family time, sports, church, and a college education. There are many ways to express your self.

Throughout my middle and jr. high school life I had to wear a uniform. I hated it! They really don't help in any way. I still got picked on, I still had no friends, I still was considered the outsider. Uniforms are just expensive ways of pretending there is some sort of order. My parent's had trouble paying for mine on top of my schooling, but the time I was in 8th grade I had hand-me-downs from seven different girls that had already graduated before me. As for free dress days, we had to pay our school extra money just to wear blue jeans! How "free" is that! Uniforms are just another way to make money and with some kids they DO take away creativity.
At most schools that require uniforms your not allowed to be creative anyways, UNI- as in one FORM- as in a mass of order!
Now I go to a school where I can express myself, I now have friends, I go and do things on the weekends, my grades have gone from C's and D's to A's and B's! I'm so much happier being allowed to where a t-shirt and jeans or a nice skirt and shirt.
I have to wear a uniform at work, I'd never allow myself to have to wear one at school again.

Yeah I would say it is good for high school as well. It will simplify your life a little bit and level the playing field ever so slightly. It also gets you into a business mentality. Now one might say well you are just a mindless kid in high school. But suddenly, one day later, you are an adult in collage with a focus? Where is the magic there? High school is a preparation for what will become a business atmosphere. You will certainly need alot of focus and a solid base since you may already be working for a professional company by your second or third year of collage.

You are to be congratulated for your understanding of the uniform rule. Most kids rebel against it. Where I live, the children that go to parochial schools have to wear uniforms, but they can be creative with shoes and other accessories. There was an article in our newspaper that showed girls wearing uniforms, but had all different kinds of shoes, scarves, headbands, etc. While uniforms are necessary so that everyone dresses the same, there's always room for a little creativity. Good luck, and thanks for a great attitude!!

There is no one set answer. You know most of the arguments on each side. There aew close to 100. 00 schools in our country. There are enough schools so that we can have both uniform and nonuniform schools.

I think school uniforms usually look crisp and smart.
But honestly, if you rely that strongly on clothes to express yourself, you're having communication issues, and that kind of expression is shallow anyway.

i have never had to wear uniforms in school, and I wish we did. my school harshly distinguishes people by what they wear. Hollister or no Hollister, that seems to be the question that defines who you are in my school. People say that in takes away your freedom of expression, but shouldn't you express yourself in what you do, not on what name brand you can afford?

school uniforms are important period. Your freedom of expression should come through in the things you write and say. It is school, not the mall.
