I think keeping kids at school until 18, all of them not just the academics, is a cynical way of massaging the unemployment statistics by depriving them of 2 years opportunity to work and be paid rather than trying to drive them academically to the frustration of teachers and students alike and to the unnecessary expense of parents.

There is no more point in insisting that an academically mediocre child be forced to study than there is in driving a physically mediocre child to competitive sport.

I think we should recognise and respect the differences in peoples ambitions and aptitudes rather than trrying to drive all of them down a path that only some are suited for.

And if they do all leave school at 18, not 16, are the ones who would have left at 16 and leaving with inferior academic grades to the others going to have any better work opportunities. No, of course not. The same people will still be stacking supermarket shelves and cleaning the streets but now minus 2 years pay

My teacher assigned me to copy out her classroom rules 20 times. They are so long, 2 pages typed (its about 6 pages handwritten). I just finished copying it out 5 times and my hand hurts like hell. I don't think I can finish it by tomorrow, which then she will double. Normally she assigns lines, but this time she decided to give me more writing.

I have my practise options for my GCSE tomorrow. Although it's not important as it's only a practise, I would like to know some things.

It is compolsery by law to take a double English, double Science and a Maths. Making 5 GCSE's so far.
It is compolsery by law to carry on I.T and R.E untill the end of Year 11. But my school think you should get something out of 2 years work, so you have to do a half course in each. Making 6 GCSE's.
My school also like you to keep your choices open. So they say that you have to take one in Humanities, one MFL [Modern foreign language], and one in some sort of Arts, and one is compleatly up to you. The languages I can take are French and German.

I want to be a web designer when I am older, but am very interested in Politics, Geography and History.
I think I will take Graphic Design for my Arts one.

What subjects are included in Humanities?
And also, does anyone know which language will be needed more as I get older?

Thanks x

Most children go to school unwillingly, so why do the grown-ups believe that they have to pile on as many rules as they possiably can. And by adding on all these rules it just makes students more irritated and disruptive. They could at the least make it a plesant experience instead of making us feel like were in jail. What do you think?

My daughter is going to school this year and my husband and I are undecided on Private VS Public. Big Issues are: Public= too many students not enough teachers, less learning resources, Private= more teachers, more learning resources. My father went Private/ mother went Public and both stick by their sides. We both went Public because our parents could not afford Private. We have always been against an elitest lifestyle. We want to give our daughter the best education we can offer. Someone suggested giving money we would spend on Private School to the Public School to help with resorces- no matter what difference it makes. Has anyone been Private/ Public School, or to both? What did you think were the greatest benefits of your schooling? and do you think the school you go to effects any future efforts in gaining employment?
