I have my practise options for my GCSE tomorrow. Although it's not important as it's only a practise, I would like to know some things.

It is compolsery by law to take a double English, double Science and a Maths. Making 5 GCSE's so far.
It is compolsery by law to carry on I.T and R.E untill the end of Year 11. But my school think you should get something out of 2 years work, so you have to do a half course in each. Making 6 GCSE's.
My school also like you to keep your choices open. So they say that you have to take one in Humanities, one MFL [Modern foreign language], and one in some sort of Arts, and one is compleatly up to you. The languages I can take are French and German.

I want to be a web designer when I am older, but am very interested in Politics, Geography and History.
I think I will take Graphic Design for my Arts one.

What subjects are included in Humanities?
And also, does anyone know which language will be needed more as I get older?

Thanks x

We had to take similar choices, they've made you take a good broad range which is good. Humanities are Geography, Geology and History usually. French is probably more useful than German as more countries have it as their first or second language.

Sometime during your next term, you will be offered your options. It depends on your school in a lot of instances, some may offer a double award Science, some may require you to take both technology and ICT. When I took my GCSE's in 2003, I had the option of one Humanities subject (i.e. you can only take History or Geography, generally not both;, a modern foreign language was required and not optional; because I was in the Higher Tier for English, I had to take both English Literature and English Language; Maths; a Double Science award which amounts to 2 GCSE's; a technology subject (my school was a Technology College and therefore this was required); then ICT had to be one of your options; and then I think that it was a case of choosing between Drama, Religious Studies, Physical Studies, etc. Certain subjects are also needed, but you won't obtain a GCSE for them, such as P.E. and in a lot of schools, what is known as Citizenship Studies, or something similar. As I have said, it completely depends on your school and what they have decided to do. If I remember rightly, my school had spilt the subjects into what they called "columns", so it was far easier than it seemed. As for how many subjects you have to take, you can take more if you wish. This obviously requires far more hard work. If you're really worried, pop to your local Connexions, I bet they've got some stuff you can read.

The humanities are RE, Sociology, Geography and History.

I would choose French for the language.

Graphic Design is part of the IT GCSE, and NOT a subject on it's own.

Home Economics is/was considered a Art subject, so choose that - as it includes a bit of Finance Management, and it will be useful if you go to University.

im in year 11 and i also want to be a web designer, or more like computer software engineer, the subject i chose were graphics, work related learning and business studies, but the main thing is probably after school when you go on and do courses in college and university, but i will only recommend that you do whatever you enjoy. good luck.

Well first you need the basics which are english, maths and at least one science. Then I would say definatley take i.c.t and any other gcses that are needed in order to become a web designer. Then depending on how many gcse's you wanna take, pick subjects you enjoy. I am only taking history and art because they are subjects i enjoy.

i think really need 2 talk 2 ur teachers and/or tutor. cause every school does it differently e.g we didn't have 2 take I.T so cause i had filled up all my options i am now douing a course after school. talk 2 ur teachers about what u want 2 be and wat would be the best options 4 u to choose. u could also do a search on google 2 c wat GCSE's r needed 2 become a web designer.

gd luck

'Humanities' usually refers to Geography and History. I would recommend French as a language choice because it is related to so many other European languges, and spoken in so many countries - as long as you are as good at French as you are at German! It looks as if you might be able to do History and Geography if you have one free choice. Good luck!

hiya, if I was you I would do the things you are a good at and enjoy. Your GCSE's dont really count for much it's what you do after school.

I did art and child care. I think you should do what you want to do.
