I'm just curious...back in the days they seemed expensive because they were 10 or 15 dollars, and now they are 40 dollars and up. What do they cost where you or your kids go to school? Do you still have them?

I was just wondering what a Charter school was because I was in Pacific Palisades yesterday, I saw that the high school said "Charter High" on it. I searched it on the internet at schoolmatters.com and the school had a large variety of demeografics. It was like 45% white, 30% black and 25% hispanic and most of the income was of the low class. The reason why it doesn't make sense to me is because Pacific Palisades is prodominantly a white community with the average house starting at 1.2 million dollars.

I am 15 and trying to apply to boarding school. The downside is I don't have the strongest grades ranging from like one A to C's and D's and maybe a B. I play a lot of sports (skiiing, football, baseball lax, wrestling) I have good SSAT scores (although I believe they prove nothing) and I play the drums and do a little acting. I was wondering If I have a good chance of getting into boarding school-or none at all. I think I am a smart kid and that I would be a good addition to a school, but that is to them to decide. I am trying to apply to some boarding schools in NH, and MI.

I teach reading to a 3rd grader who is reading on a first grade level. He knows his sight words perfectly and can read through them without any problems. When we go to read stories with the words in the text, he doesn't know the words and has the hardest time reading the stories...I was wondering if anyone has any tricks or suggestions for me to help this student? I am not sure how to approach this. Thanks so much!!

In South Africa this seems to be a growing problem, because our kids are not getting the education we did. The teachers teaching the subjects they are not qualified to teach or there are not teachers for certain subjects. More and more parents are taking their kids out of government schools and putting them in colleges. What do the rest of you think? Is it because our kids are to big for their boots that the teachers have lost interest or is there really problems with our educational department?

I am having a problem getting my 6 year old to read. He just acts like he is not interested at all. He just stares at the words and dont even want to try to sound it out. I took him to the public library to get his own library card and check out some books that he likes and we looked at them one night. I am really beginning to worry about him. His grades in school are pretty good but they could be better if he was able to read alittle better. If anyone has any ideas, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
