Must disagree totally with first part of the above answer. An object complement is a noun, pronoun, or adjective which follows a direct object and renames it or tells what the direct object has become. In that sentence, the direct object is "table", and it has become green. That's a classic example of an object complement.

For the second, "children" is the D. O.

In the first sentence, "the old picnic table" is the complement. "green" is the object predicative.

In the second sentence, children is the direct object.
