Hey, being a sophomore student of Manila Science high school, I believe I can answer you...

First, didn't you just say 'for chosen students only'? That means, we we're chosen among the best students there were to choose from. Students are normally the best from the school they're from. A big percentage of students, I believe, also graduated from private schools...

Second, we have more and advanced subjects... We normally have 2 science, 2 math, 2 english subject per year level... Sometimes, there could even be 3 subjects focusing on science...

One time, I asked a former classmate of mine from elementary which is still at this private school Im from... Said what we're studying is a part of their 4th year curriculum...

See, advanced?

Students are the cream of the crop... best among the rest!

Go, MaSci! *sings* 'Batis ng diwa, ginto't dalisay...'

The students of Manila Science are obviously more motivated to prove they can excel despite the obsticles. Also, if the students of MS are chosen specifically by the gov't, then it is very unlikely that they are going to choose unintellegent children. Although private schools only allow gifted students into their ranks as well, that doesn't mean that these students possess the determination to do well in school. For many of them, once they get into private school, as long as they achieve passing grades and decent test scores they basically have a free ride to any other school that they would want to go to in the future. The Filipino children most likely also have to overcome racial discrimination, which can make many children even more determined to prove the majority wrong.

Well.. I'm guessing is that the Honor students are the only ones allowed to get into Manila Science High since its being run by the government.. So its basically like a scholarship, i guess...

But seeing that Manila Science High is a public school, its kinda confusing because Public schools dont have much things [Textbooks, computers, etc] to work with.
I got to a Private School in Baguio and things aren't much if you compare it to Public Schools in the US.

well. I hope this helps~ [and doesn't confuse you] ^^;
