He can read quite well and teacher thinks he knows what to do, just doesn't do it. He never finishes his lunch off because time runs out (other children do) so is not eating all day. I think he daydreams a lot and this might be the problem, but has anyone got any ideas. He eats and sleeps well and everything else seems 'normal'.

My child is in 3rd grade. I have been going to the school about once a week for 30 minutes usually and helping in classroom. Their school handbook says that parents are allowed to visit classrooms anytime they want as long as they check in with the office which I always do and as long as they don't disrupt the class, which I don't. Last week the vice principal told me that if I wanted to help at the school to help the woman who makes copies of things for the teachers instead of helping in the classroom, because he didn't want me to help in the classroom. I talked to the teacher and she said that she enjoyed me helping her and that I could come in and help anytime that I wanted to. What do I do? My child is really depressed because I told him I probably wouldn't be coming in anymore. Don't you think that if they don't want parent voluteers in the classroom they should say that in the handbook?

Is political correctness holding all the bright kids back? I feel ( and please correct me if I'm wrong) that too many " awards" are being given to under achievers, and not enough praise is given to the kids that work hard, hand in 4 pages of homework behave well, etc.
Is it fair, or right ( in your opinion) that a child with serious behavioural problems and NO interest in learning whatsoever, gets to go up in assembly every other Friday for 1-2 awards, while the bright, hardworking well behaved kids get ignored completely for an entire term ? This seems to be happening quite a lot at some local primary schools, so I was just wondering what the goal is here ! Surely the bright kids will give up in the end if they do not get at least some praise ?

Our present K-12 educational system was built around an industrial 9 a.m.. to 5 p.m. work schedule, with a single wage earner, with family and community support. Today, parents struggle with archaic school schedules, and children face a digital world marketplace, compete on an international basis for jobs, have to grow up faster, and have to learn more. If you could make any changes or improvements or start from scratch, what could we do?

As we see in a competitive world a heavy load of school/bookish education in the children from the age of 3-4 years. In my openion its not justifiied and its the voilation of independency of children to enjoyment of his/her childhood. what do you think?

I have to write a stupid essay on wether or not we think school uniforms are a good choice. I'm oly in 6th grade so my teacher walked us through good reasons for having or not having them. She had an idea that its scientifically tested that people who wear uniforms are more likely to get good grades. I disaggree with that. If you wear a uniform, you are likely to be going to a private school. If your going to a private school you are more likely to have a richer family. If you have a richer family your parents are more likely to have a good education. If yourparents have a good education, they're more likely to pass it on to their kids! Isn't that true? So my teacher and anyone who testedn that is way out of their mnds right?
My reasons:
The one I said above Creativity and kindividuality ar \e not present
Didnt we fight a many wars on freedome? I actually think we fought just about every war o freedome. Is being forced to wear a certai n aryticle of clothing freedome. Comunism?
