Gee...I dunno whether it can really help you or not..
It's 6.30pm Indonesia time..dunno what time it is in your place.

Well, generally, "have to" is differentiated with "must" not "was to".

"have to" functions to show that there's an urgency in doing some actions; an order from someone who is older or has more authority; or to show rules.

This "have to" comes from outsider (compare to "must" which comes from ourselves and has a stronger sense than "have to").
For example: I have to study hard company

Anyway, as the question was the difference between "have to" and "was to", here is the answer:

"Have to" and "was to" are semi modals. "Have to" is used to address suggestion, while "was to" is to tell the agreement between the speaker and the hearer (or the writer and the reader).

For example:
I was to go; it means the speaker and the hearer know this.
There will be an understood message between both.

She has to go; it means that what she is going to do is much better than other choices (for example stay).

If you 'have to' do something it is in the future tense as it has not already happened. If you say I 'was to' do something then that is in the past tense as it has already happened.

e.g:

I have to go to school this morning.

I was to go to school today, but i felt ill so I stayed at home.

I hope this helps :)

If you 'was to' miss your lesson, you would 'have to' take it again.

"Have to" denotes compulsion: "must" do> "Was to" denotes some action one was about to take, a probability.
