I feel silly even posting this, but here's my problem: My 1st-grade son has a lot of friends and has been invited to a lot of birthday parties recently. We have a tiny house and a small budget and cannot afford to take 20-odd kids out for pizza or similar. So when my son turned 7 at the beginning of this month, we told him he could invite 2 friends out for a movie, which he did, and we all had a good time.

But I am getting weird looks from some of the parents of kids who weren't asked, especially those whose kids' parties my son went to. I think they may think they were snubbed, which is not the case! We're just broke and have a small house! Is there any diplomatic way to make things clear without making a bigger problem out of a small one? I had no idea that this kind of thing would become an issue when my son just turned 7!! Has anyone been in a similar situation, and what did you do? Thanks.

I've started using them this semester and I cant believe I hadnt used them earlier. They are a great tool, not only do they help you research for the answers, but when you actually use them, you further reinforce the knowledge into your mind. I cant believe I used to laugh off at this method and think it was dumb.

I just got the first report card of the semester and my overall average is 90. Is that good or bad? My highest grade was a 98 in Science and my lowest was a 83 in Math but i'm used to my grade Math. I'm in the 6th grade and in accelereted Math, we do early 7th grade Math. Isn't a 83 kinda good?

I dropped out 5 years ago and I'm going to graduate this June...totally excited to graduate..but what now? I have finally whittled my career choices down to two very different fields..but I don't want to make the wrong decision and end up
1) dropping out of a college/university course
2)ending up in a career that I don't like/want
Anyone else graduating late in life and are scared?

...kids dont ever write examinations (except of course the Sats and GCSE's) and then people turn around and say even this is not fair because "they're only kids". In South Africa we have to write examinations every single year of our school lives, we develop the habit and our exams and university requirements are so rigorous that when I came to teach here it suprised me that some parents feel "they are only kids" and shouldnt be tested etc. Surely, school prepares them for the real world where they actually get asked questions or "tested" in the workplace...shouldnt the kids be prepared for working life? Funny that these "mere children" are the main perpetrators of crime in society, I come from crime-ridden south africa, but our criminals are generally marginilized people who seek to obtain basic necessities through crime, not excusable at all, but I think perhaps the British Education system (claiming its standards are "first world") could take a less lack lustre approach?

When my son talks, he often stutters, but he repeats the end of the word, not the beginning like

yesterday-day my teacher-cher-cher she told me that I couldn't go to recess-cess because I didn't-t-t-t finish my picture.

I am in grade 9, standard 7, and our school is basically the only public school in the province (probably even the country) to be writing end of year exams. WHY? I was looking at a website on stress and i have every single one of the symptoms (there are about 20), and i do not see why the school feels the need to make us die early...GOSH!!
