I dropped out 5 years ago and I'm going to graduate this June...totally excited to graduate..but what now? I have finally whittled my career choices down to two very different fields..but I don't want to make the wrong decision and end up
1) dropping out of a college/university course
2)ending up in a career that I don't like/want
Anyone else graduating late in life and are scared?

Congratulations on your decision to return to school and your upcoming graduation.

I grew up in England and in those days you could leave school at the age of 15, which I did, as my family did not have much money and I was able to get a full-tiem job and was able to give my mother my pay each week. She would then give me my lunch money back! In my teen years I was an avid reader, reading for probably two hours a day. It was that, rather than my formal schooling that educated me.

I worked in a Hairdresser's shop, an Optometrist's office, a Mail Order head office and in the office of a Civil Engineering company. I got married, had a child, emigrated to Canada, had another child. In those years I took night classes as I always loved to learn - Typing, Book-keeping, Sign language for the deaf, Dress making - anything that interested me.

When I was widowed young at the age of 39 I enrolled in University and so far have taken 5 courses - Anthropology, two Psychology courses, Sociology & Thanatology. I work as a volunteer with a Grief & Bereavement Support Group and love what I do.

Get yourself a well-rounded education, talk to a guidance counsellor, but whatever you do, be enthusiastic about what you do and do what you love! Yes, it is okay to be scared - I was, but life does not stop while you are making up your mind what you want to do. Think about what you would like to do if money were no object, if you could afford to do whatever you wanted with your life - then aim for that!

Good Luck!

Congratulations! You've done the right thing by going back to school.
Don't worry about picking a career just yet. The first two years of college are general education classes. You don't really have to declare a major until your junior year.
Lots of people change their major, sometimes multiple times.
I finally found something I liked, had a very successful career for 20yrs, then decided to go in a totally different direction. Be flexible--you can always change your mind. Your life doesn't have to be written in stone!
