I did a science PGCE 4 years ago. They were very keen to know my opinions on education in general and science education in particular. Have a good look at the Times Educational Supplement website (www.tes.co.uk) and read up on what's making headlines, particularly within your own subject.

Many schools encourage prospective PGCE students to visit them for a few days to find out what the job really involves. Do this if you possibly can. The university will give you a list of local schools where this is possible.

Good luck. There is no other job in the world to compare with teaching.

It depends on whether you are doing Primary or Secondary. If you are applying for Secondary they will snap you up!
History isn't one of the subjects of which teachers are in demand as yet, but it's still worth applying for. Get some experience in a school if you can in the Year groups you want to teach.

If you have already done that mention that in the interview. Also read up on the National Curriculum, the DFES website and any appropiate stuff for trainee teachers (see the teachernet website - I'm only a lowly support assistant but it helps me too).

Good luck, tell them why you want to teach and why you want to teach History. And be confident (whoops - grammar error!). Hope you get it.
