can a 9th grader be #1 in his/her science class, history class, spanish class etc. or just #1 for the whole 9th grade, i never said anything about seniors or juniors

you can be both you can be #1 in all u can be #1 out of freshman sophomore juniors and seniors and u could be #1 of only the seniors

When your chosen as top of your class, the class ranking system is only for your grade level. It wouldn't be fair to put 9th graders against 12th graders, for instance, because (in theory) the senior would have higher academic experience than the freshman (although the freshman has the easy classes and the higher GPA potentially)

Thus, its just your grade level. Sorry, you can't get an official regonition of beating out other kids in other grades! :-)
