I have taught in "Brethren Schools". The students come to learn and treat each other and the staff with respect. Because of their religious philosophy, you get some interesting situations!
A child drops or throws a piece of paper on the floor. The teacher asks," Who did that?". The child IMMEDIATELY owns up!
Imagine such an episode in a state school.
It is one of the reasons that they don't want their children educated in the state system.

Yes, there's a great little village school in Kent where all the kids are enthusiastic about every subject and so well behaved and respectful that its unbelievable. Rare, but they do exist!
I think it is the family atmosphere and the fact that the children look out for each other and feel safe.

Well, mostly kids want to learn. At least in primary school anyways. Try to get your kid into a state grammar or state boarding school (they actually buck the trend and get decent results).
For secondary school if you can't get your kid into the grammar or boarding school then i'm afraid it's private all the way .... UNLESS, you can find a good state school. But if you cant afford private (at around £6-9000 a yr) then i would recommend a state school with private tuition (at around £1500 a yr).
GOOD LUCK
PS - If you've still got a few years left move house into a good school's catchment area (I find faith schools really good!).

If you want kids to respect you and want to learn, BECOME A CHEMISTRY TEACHER!
You get to 'play' with fire and bunsen burners and acids and exploding materials. ALL the boys in my class used to pay attention when we were doing experiments and learning how to blow stuff up. That is, without doubt, one of the only lessons in school where the kids really pay attention.

Only in private schools. In state schools they do as they want, because all authority has been taken away from the teachers. The system is heading for collapse, teachers are fed up with being blamed for all the failed schools, when it is the little sh**s who don't want to learn.
