in all his classes but his spelling is terrible. He is twelve years old now and I'm afraid his spelling will interfere with his chances of getting into a good college. Is there some sort of learning disability associated with spelling but not with reading. I've heard him mispronounce words in a way that suggests he doesn't hear some sounds clearly. Can anything be done to help him?

What would you change about your school system to help you and/or your family learn better?

I would have teachers with a variety of teaching styles in each grade, to suit each childs' learning style, not just one or two like the schools I know of.

On what basis would you make your decision? I teach at a public school and find myself making my opinion by a case-by-case situation.

I believe that with extra help next yr. my daughter would do fine in 2nd grade.I don't agree that it should be the school's decision of whether a child can go on or not.I feel as a parent that I should have a say in the matter but that's not the way it seems to work here in MA.I worry how she will handle this and have not mentioned it to her yet. What do others think of this?

Ok, so I have a choice between 2 schools. .
the first school, I have been going to for a year (and i LOVE it), there is a guy that I like there (i think he might like me too!) and I know lots of people + have tons of friends ..they also have a GREAT music/drama program which is something I'm really into...

BUT. . .. we are moving (out of the area) so if I DO transfer back to my old school (school #1) it will be a 1/2 hr drive every day!

School #2 is in my area, and I can walk there, and it's a small town so if you don't go to the school you don't know anyone, and they are harder on people to get "in" to be accpeted as one of them...I know a few people that go here (from Youth group) but they aren't tthat friendly..and there is a guy that I really like here, but I don't know if he likes me (I think he likes this other girl)... this school has an OK drama/music program, but not very good teachers. . .

WHAT SHOULD I DO? !!!!

As mosts parents struggle to find ways to help kids cope with keeping up with increasing schoolwork these days while finding enough time to play, pursue other hobbies, or enjoy simple pleasures of childhood, they would still like to know how to secure their children's future.

I've been reading through some yahoo questions and answers and it seems like no one takes the time learn English. There's a freaking "Check Spelling" box right there! Am I the only one that seems to notice this and does it bother you too?
