My son is 16. He has just passed ICSE with 64.8% . Though he likes his science very much, but he did not do well in his science group. What we see, he is busy all the time with his guiter. He says that he don't get energy while reading ? He is intelligent but he doesnot study upto the mark for which he doesnot get good marks. We have consulted to good councellors but to no avail. Please suggest some ways to curb his mind towards reading.

here is how it is: i'm 19 and my parents have the exact same problem with me. i'm now studying commercial engineering and i have never ever worked at school at still managed to pass my school diploma with pretty decent grades which now puts me in the best belgian university. however, i now understand why i had to work. at some point in life being clever is no more use. work becomes an unavoidable necessity. if i could do it again i would work 3 additional hours every day of my school life. its important that you tell your son he might not see it now but that he definitely will thank you later for making him study more. i seriously wish you succeed. that is the problem of intelligent people... things are too easy and then at one point they get beaten by normal people who just put more effort into what they're doing.

Im sure your son is very intelligent.
My brother is just going to be freshman and he plays the drums for a band. He is constantly listening to music and doesnt want to read any books [or he'll fall asleep.]
My brother is smart though... hehehehe
since your son is interested in music, try to find books that are related to guitars or music or anything he likes. Sit down with him and ask questions: what are your interests? What kind of topics would you like to read about?
sometimes, that doesnt always work b/c sometimes, they would just walk away. Another suggestion is getting your son a guitar teacher. Ask the teacher to inspire your child to read books that are related to his intreests. For example, the teacher can assign him to read a book about guitars or music. By this way, he can understand that the book the teacher assigned is RELATED to his interests in music.

i hope this helps. patience might be the key but good luck! :]
