Children like bright colours, but more importantly, it's the type of pictures. It all depends on he child and chdildren, but most are into animals. I am big into reptiles and turtles, so my classroom always had two aqquarium tanks (once huge one for turtles and a smaller one for fish and snails). I decorate my room thematically. I have bulletin boads with a turtle theme, and ocean theme. If you can paint, you can do murals. Kids are not picky about your artisitc abilities.

Large cushions, bean bag chairs, swing chair (suspended from ceiling) are all fun things for them. Things dangling or hanging are always popular. A puppet theatre, a reading area, a drawing area, a science area, etc. Kids of all ages love different activities. This can be achieved in a bedroom, K room or primary classroom.

Definitely put this in bins or rubbermaid boxes so they can stores things. Teach children to take care of the items.

Don't be afraid to introduce art and tell them the significance or about the artists. I have used Escher, Monet, etc.

4k and 5k seems to prefer bright colors and lots of colors and shapes on walls, comfortable child size furniture and an area where they can sit and be read stories to, an area to play with toys. 1 grade and 2 grade, less pics on wall not so much bright colors, but still a reading place, charts on wall to show when they are doing good, sounds and words on wall, computer in rooms and child size furniture
