Really simple and beautiful question, which also explains our weather patterns.

The Mississippi/Missouri River (Ohio River too) drain the entire country..down to the gulf of Mexico.

The Rockies on the West, and the Appalachian Mountains in the east, funnel the air patterns both south, from Canada, for cold--and north, from Mexico, for warm air.

This is also why we are the Tornado Capital of the World.

The Great Lakes are the largest source of fresh water in the world, and we are lucky to have them :--think H-O-M-E-S, for
: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie,
and Superior, the largest fresh lake in the entire world.!
