I've been reading through some yahoo questions and answers and it seems like no one takes the time learn English. There's a freaking "Check Spelling" box right there! Am I the only one that seems to notice this and does it bother you too?

I would like to thank everyone for their posts. Especially the ones that tried to belittle me for spelling grammar wrong. If you will all notice: I never said I was a good speller, or a good grammerer.

Yes, it does bug me. But you spelled grammar wrong. :( It probably doesn't check the title. But that's ok, I jsut wanted to point it out in a nice way before the millions of less kind people come. I always check my spelling, and it just goes to show the type of person you are talking to.

If you have noticed there is no concern with spelling or grammer anymore. Kids write everything like shorthand as they all are communicating on some sort of messsenger program and they are to lazy to spell correctly. It carries into to the adulthood years and therefore they look like idiots. The other reason is working people dont have time to mess on the computer so you have an bunch of unemployed illiterates spending all day on the computer

1. Many people using Yahoo are not native English speakers.
2. Many people using Yahoo are young and therefore still learning to read and write English properly.
3. Many people using Yahoo are poorly educated.
4. Many people use poor grammar and spelling as a stylistic choice.
5. Many people just want to communicate ideas, and do not care to take the extra time that it would take to ensure that their spelling and grammar is correct.

I have noticed this... I suppose no one cares enough to check spelling. Which is lazy and sad. Sometimes you can't even make out the words. Personally, I don't care that it's online, I choose not to appear uneducated, ignorant, or lazy. But that's just me.
It sure is hard to take a question written so poorly seriously, isn't it?

But I suppose we can credit Gwen Stefani for getting the "kids" to spell banana correctly. *sigh*

By the way, your errors in the title and then in grammar won't "check"

It seems that the dumbing down of American students is in full effect. The use of the language here is abhorrent.

Minor mistakes in grammar are easy to overlook, but I'm with you. The spelling mistakes are inexcusable due to the presence of the built in spell check.

Ok, by now you already know you've misspelled "grammar", but I think TOMPKINS went a little overboard. I think people DO use Spellcheck at their jobs, but on this forum, they're so busy trying to post their answer quickly that they don't bother to use it. I can understand the occasional misspelled word here or there, but I hate it when people don't seem to have a clue as to how to put a sentence together.

My hat's off to you! But, you're fighting a losing battle! There's a time to give up a fight that you just can't win. Idiots make enough money to get a computer working at burger flipping, so keep up the good fight. And, GRAMMAR, not grammer.

some people just type really fast. others just don't care. and you must understand there are bad spellers out there. I know people who can figure some of the most perplexing math problems in their head, but can't spell "their" correctly in a sentence.

I hate to break the news to you, but this isn't exactly limited to Yahoo! Answers. The whole freaking internet is exactly like that. From reading message boards, you'd think that there was no one over the age of 12 even using the internet.

One reason people have bad grammar is because no one is perfect and have problems with spelling.
